Among the Twenty-Two Items of Gōhōan’s Daily Use
Tea Scoop
A vertical groove revealing sesame-speckled grain on one side displays Enshū’s unique aesthetic.
Case
Made of decayed bamboo, with insect holes at the bottom adding to its wabi-sabi charm.
The “Itozakura” inscription is rare, as Enshū affixed a strip of paper bearing the verse: “Thread-like cherry blossoms / Standing tall, the cherry tree / Reveals its blossoms / Until they bloom / Then it becomes a thread-like willow.” This makes it a one-of-a-kind piece.
