16th century
Height 17.5 cm, mouth diameter 10.7 cm, body diameter 17.0 cm, bottom diameter 12.0 cm
This is a type of small jar commonly referred to as a “suzuji,” although it is now used as a water jar. This type of jar, with a short, U-shaped mouth with an inward-tilted rim, was produced in large numbers in Tamba in the 16th century. This is a thin, wheel-thrown, water-ground piece of fine work. The brownish-brown ground has black patches, and the dark green natural glaze on the shoulder flows down to create a varied surface.
