This is a generously sized tea bowl, crafted with a thin overall body and a rounded, flared waist. A neat, low foot is attached to the round bottom, and the interior of the foot is shallowly carved. The foot and the area around it reveal a rich white clay, while the rest is coated with yellow clay and covered with a slightly thick layer of transparent glaze. A “hojin” (treasure-filled) pattern is painted in white slip on the interior, and subtle fire-change patterns appear on both the interior and exterior, creating a beautiful visual effect.
An “Inkyo” seal is stamped on the side of the foot, and the character “Oni” (demon) is carved into the glaze crack at the base. Based on these details, it is believed this bowl was made for use during the Setsubun festival.
