Mizuno Museum of Ceramic Art
This is one of the Echizen vase forms unique to Echizen, with an arithmetic ball-shaped body and a small mouth neck. The flat beveled edge of the mouth indicates that this jar dates to the 16th century. The blackish-brown clay is mixed with fine-grained rice field clay, and a yellowish-green natural glaze covers the entire surface of the shoulder, running down to the lower half of the body and enhancing this large jar. This is one of the finest Echizen large vases.
