The author saw this tea caddy at an auction of the Kishu family. It has been passed down among tea masters since the Higashiyama period and has been the subject of many reviews. It also appears in Tsuda Sōyū’s Tea Ceremony Diary.
The shape is round and full, the mouth is well-made, and it is a tea caddy with a dignified appearance. The glaze is evenly applied to the entire surface, has a beautiful luster, and the edges are vivid, showing the original texture of the clay. It seems that it was cherished like a precious jewel.
There are four replacement covers, all made from Meibutsu Donshu, which are elegantly matched and truly exquisite.
