Hoshu inkstones are considered to be a specialty of the Owari region, where they were made at the Sanage kiln during the transition period between round-faced inkstones and wind-lettered inkstones. The inkstone is surrounded by a deep sea, and the rim is higher than the surface of the land. The back of the inkstone has one polygonal foot on the front and two polygonal feet on the back, and the front is slightly lower than the back.
