This piece was passed down through the Konoike family and is considered a Meibutsu of the Sen family, regarded as one of the family’s most prized possessions. The name “Tate-ko” (Standing Drum) derives from the upright posture of the drum’s body.
While tea masters appreciate Kise-to ware that features red iron oxide, this piece is of an even older style; red iron oxide is virtually nonexistent in this type of Kise-to ware.
