This Chinese-style basket with handles, commonly known as a “peony basket,” is typically sold by tea ceremony goods dealers. The slender, elongated variety is called “Reishō-jo.”
Dating from the Ming Dynasty, it features a refined appearance characterized by its bamboo weaving, long handles, and clean lines, topped with copper fittings for the carrying handles.
This motif is also frequently seen as a subject in East Asian painting.
Furthermore, it is common to find this type of basket containing Nanjing jade.
