This incense container is ranked in the middle of the front ranks in the “katamono kagai ranking list,” but it is considered to be appreciated more than the ranking list because of its rare all-yellow color.
The feathers are sandalwood hair, and the shape has a carved pattern of chest hair, which is highly prized because there are very few of this type.
The pressed lotus petals around the “body” are clear and well formed, and the overall appearance of the body is round and neat, giving it a particularly charming appearance. Tea masters in the past especially praised this incense container, and it is said to be the most beautiful of all the duck incense containers.
While on a side note, one of the reasons why this incense container is highly prized by connoisseurs is that the body and lid are well matched. This is an interesting way of looking at this type of incense container.
The fact that the yellow color was especially favored by the kigamo is probably a reference to the golden koban of the “yellow duck.
